METRO FM, the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) largest commercial radio station, announced the nominees for the 14th METRO FM Music Awards.
The hosts of the evening were METRO FM’s duo, Unathi Msengana & Amon Mokoena and needless to say they did a sterling job! The crème de la crème of the music industry, Kelly Khumalo, The Soil, AKA, DJ Melon and Cassper Nyovest displayed impressive performances. The showstoppers of the evening were the stations very own DJ Vinny da Vinci, DJ Siyanda, as well as DJ’s Sphe & Naves.
GM – SABC PCS RADIO – Mr Leuba Ramakgolo, said: “The calibre of finalists for this year’s leg of the awards is exciting. It reaffirms our stance of being unapologetic about Celebrating Greatness in music and recognizing musicians who have contributed to the growth of the industry in the last 14 years. We urge the public to vote vigorously if they want their favourite musician or group to walk away with a coveted, most sort after METRO FM Music Award”.
The theme for this years’ awards is Celebrating Greatness. As a broadcaster, our mandate is to educate, inform & entertain, and music is a bigger part of our entertainment. Therefore, as a station, we have a responsibility to ensure that not only do we acknowledge the rich music output we enjoy as a people through our many talented musicians, but that we also celebrate how great our musicians truly are, using a platform such as this.
We also pride ourselves as the only station that makes the loudest noise in admiration of the artists and invite the entire nation to join us in the camaraderie that unfolds post this massive celebration, in shaping the future further.
These awards are for the people by the people where your vote is vital and plays a major significant role. As the countdown to the biggest music awards ceremony in the country begins, the station can assure its valuable audiences a world class production & entertainment and the most amazing music celebration the country has seen. We have undoubtedly set the bar high and therefore have a responsibility to maintain that standard!
With the award season being upon us internationally, we at METRO FM pride ourselves that we are playing in this space, and we can comfortably declare that we can compete with the best in the global arena.
