For High Rollers
Four bottles of Rémy Martin’s deluxe Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6 Cognac have been released in South Africa. At R300,000 a bottle, it’s the most expensive cognac on the market. South Africa is the only country on the African continent to be awarded several of the 738 bottles that were produced from a single cask. One bottle has already been sold to a private collector, who wishes to remain anonymous. The remaining three bottles are available via Makro and Norman Goodfellows. Made exclusively from Grande Champagne grapes, the Cognac is distilled in the lees and put to sleep in French oak casks called tierçons. From the age of 40, the eaux-de-vie are carefully blended to create the unique flavour profile that is the hallmark of Louis XIII. Packed in a forged metal strongbox, patterned with a fleur-de-lis motif, Rare Cask 42,6 can be found at some of the world’s top hotels, such as the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, the Carlyle Hotel in New York, and the Raffles Hotel in Singapore.
